The
view from our dock at night.
All
the docks here are mostly undercover with only the ends of the long
docks sticking out and we are on the end or “T” dock of Dock I.
We call this dock the “Party Dock” because almost every boat is
lit up with lights and decorations. The owners come out on the
weekend and sit on their boats with friends and family... no one goes
any where. They seem to be content to just sit, grill, eat, drink
and chat. Nice, friendly folks. Here is the festive dock at night.
This was taken after it got chilly last night so most are inside
their boats keeping warm.
Our
wonderful Harbor Hosts, Robert & Patty Michell, took us out to a
late breakfast today along with another couple. We arrived at a
small place absolutely over run with customers. We knew right away
it was gonna be a good meal!
On
the way there we got a historical tour of the town of Alton. Here
is a playhouse built in 1885 for 5 year old Lucy Haskell. It is an
unique Queen Anne style. Lucy died at the age of 9 from diphtheria. After the death of her parents the estate was given to the City of
Alton in memory of this little girl for educational and recreational
purposes. Each summer you can see badminton and croquet games being
played on the lawn nearby just like they were when Miss Lucy was alive. This playhouse can be reserved for
birthday parties at no charge.
The
Breakfast Club!
Couple on far left are our hosts.
We
had fun talking and enjoying a big breakfast. Afterward our hosts
took us to a good size grocery store.... we have had to just used
small convenience stores near the water much of the time. We sure
have felt welcomed in this place.
We spend the rest of the day cleaning the boat & washing the linens and towels. We are off tomorrow for a trip by car to St. Louis, MO.
