On our Way to Charleston

I don't remember being as cold as I was this morning even when we lived in Alaska! The sun was up but there were a few clouds it kept hiding behind. AND the wind was awful... last night the current and the wind had helped to hold us in one direction with the anchor alarm only going off twice indicated we had swung around when the tide changed. The Drag Queen (anchor alarm) didn't disturb our sleep as it sounded early in the evening and after we were up this morning.  Although I don't think the Captain sleeps well when we are anchored in such conditions.

Our trip up the Waterway to Charleston, SC would only be 4 to 5 hours today.  So I thought we would not be in a rush.... enjoy a leisurely breakfast, listen to the news...... however, the Captain was in a hurry... I went up to the anchor windlass and came right back in and tried to get him to wait until it got warmer...you know, maybe JUNE!

By the time I had the anchor up and the stubborn clay-like mud washed off of it I could not feel my face & my hands were useless! But sitting on the bridge I warmed up quickly.

Cold and mostly clear day on the water.

The tide range is so high along the South Carolina coast that folks must have LONG piers from their houses to their boat docks.

The waterway was wide almost the entire distance today. The only narrow place came after this bridge.  It was the  Elliot Cut which had a 3.5 knot current in it.

The Cut was a pretty area with lots of trees near the banks.

Loved this little red tug boat.

Our first glimpse of Charleston.

Turning into our marina.

Miss gg in her slip.

The forecast is for 3 days of rain so not sure we will get to see much of Charleston. We have been here before a few times as one of our daughters lived here for a while and we all came to a family wedding here which had the reception in the beautiful South Carolina Aquarium. Who could forget the entrance of the wedding party coming down that THREE story escalator?!

This marina provides a free shuttle so if the rain holds off we will take advantage of this or otherwise clean the inside of the boat...sure hoping for sunshine!
