Bright
sunshine everywhere! Two boats left early this morning for the New
Jersey ICW... one has a 3 ft draft and after he was in it he called
a neighbor boat and told them he didn't recommend it at for any boats
that take more than 3 ft as he was hitting bottom! (our boat has a 3.5 ft draft) He also went at
low low tide..yeah I meant to say “Low low”... don't ask ! I am
not up on these tides but realize they have now become very
important. We warned him yesterday that it was not a very good idea
and that going outside was better. But the ocean has 5 foot swells
on it today.. not good! So he would have had to wait it out like the
rest of us here.. .still I was a little envious that he was on the
Loop while we await a safe/more comfortable travel day.
After
breakfast we cleaned up and Walter hung our Bible study flag hoping
some neighbors or Loopers would join us for a short study. We had
two attentive students: W & GA! Our flag didn't really blow out
so it could be read easily but I did text one couple however they were
already into boat cleaning project.
The
next big thing we needed to accomplish today was finding the drug
store in town that could fill Walter's prescription. Our plan was to
walk the 2 miles to the store and then call a cab to bring us back...
taxis are cheap here! We found the drug store and then had lunch at great little restaurant called Dock Mike's. It's a Breakfast and
Lunch place and recently voted the best breakfast place in New
Jersey. We sat outside and cooled off from our walk but then the
strong ocean breeze made us chilly . So naturally we walked another
block to “Scoops” for an ice cream cone!
Cape May Beach |
Then
I wanted to see the beach which was another 4 blocks away... it cost
to walk on the beach but we were allowed to take a quick photo
without paying. I talked Walter into walking back to the Marina
hoping to work off the ice cream... I believe we walked a little over
4 miles when we got back to our wonderful soft sofa where W collapsed
and GA to the chair. Whew! Probably just worked up an appetite for
the next meal!
This
is such a pretty town with more Victorian homes than any other place
along the New England coast. We hope to discover the history
tomorrow when we continue the Cape May Adventure.
Every
few hours Walter checks weather and seas..... Tides play a part also if in the ICW....we have a FIVE
foot tide here... the boat is up this afternoon. This morning it was
so low that the portable walk way to the floating dock was very
steep... hard to do in flip flops! It looks like we will start with
3 ft seas on Tuesday going down to two feet and staying that way for several days... this is doable..... perhaps no more
waiting to get into NY Harbor... so excited about this part of the
trip....and a little nervous!
