We
had an awesome breakfast about 8a at Don & Paul's Coffee Shop.
Walter had a huge breakfast and I had blue berry pancakes and the
total bill was $12!! Hardly anything on their menu was more than $3.
The place was packed.
We
came back to the boat to ready it for departure. Walter took off the
power hook up and filled our water tank. My son in law, Pete, called
when he saw Walter on the deck via the live cam here at the visitor
center on the city dock. We had a lot of fun waving at family and
grand kids. THEN we got to thinking about how nice we have it here
with only a $10 charge for power... NOT each day but a one time
payment! We also thought if the Champlain is only opened from here
to Ft. Edwards, NY there could be boats stacked up on docks every
where going north on the Hudson...meaning no room for us. Best to stay right here.
Later I went to see JoAnn, the First Mate on Wayward a beautiful Marine Trader. She told me about the free city docks at Ft. Edwards and when they were there recently only one other boat was on the dock. There is no phone number for this dock. So I called the Chamber of Commerce in Ft. Edwards and got the president on his cell phone. He happened to be standing at the city docks, Yacht Basin in Ft. Edwards and said there was only one sail boat there... we saw that sail boat leave here yesterday and know exactly who that is.. a nice young couple who changed their minds about going up the Erie with it's closure. The Chamber president told me about many things within walking distance of the docks, free docks with power and water hookups. There is an old railroad building museum... Walter will love that! Lots of history for us to explore while we wait on the next lock to open. I was also told the normal limit is two days but they wouldn't make us move unless they got a lot more boats in there. It seems all the boats here are waiting to go up the Erie Canal. Could they change their minds.... probably not as most are too high to get under bridges up the Champlain.

So
our plan (?) now is to leave about 8a tomorrow morning to push all the way up to Ft. Edwards and not stop to anchor out as we had first planned.
In the mean
time we are hauling cases of bottled water to the boat since it is so
cheap here.. it's a beautiful day for walking...
If
any of you are up and bored you can watch our departure on the live cam here about 8a
looking at the Hudson view.
Just
got a phone call from the Chamber of Commerce at Ft. Edward saying
that inside info says the Champlain Canal is open “from head to
foot”! Wahoo!
