The Last Night in Cape May

The cold front stormed through our dock at 4:56a this morning! We had not latched the master cabin door opened so it banged really loud several times and then I realized the boat was rolling. At the same time the rain began to poured down hard on us. I was hoping this signaled the end of the bad weather and we could be off tomorrow.

Our day of exploring history in Cape May was rained out but I did find out a few facts. This is the oldest seaside resort town in American starting back in 1700. I also found out why it has the second most Victorian homes ..San Francisco has the most. In 1878 the entire town nearly burned to the ground from a 5 day long fire. So when the rebuilding began builders chose the popular style of Victorian. Late today when the rain stopped I walked to town for groceries and enjoyed this architecture again.

It became clothes wash day for me. Walter connected fuel filter vacuum gauges on each engine.... but a fitting broke while he was attempting this. The Ship Store here is great and had the part he needed to replace the broken one..... but don't you know, West Marine is an easy walk also! :-0

Walter and all the men here have checked and double checked the weather.... at least 6 boats leaving from our marina to continue the loop tomorrow. The forecast has changed from 3 ft seas on the ocean to 2 ft seas. We are hoping this will hold for the next three days to get us into New York Harbor. We will go to Atlantic City tomorrow looking for an anchorage... there are two there... but we can't leave until we get a pumpout (holding tank for potty) and the one at this marina is broken... we knew this but were told we could get it done in the morning at 7a at a marina very near us.. Walter called them today and their machine is broken also! The next marina has one working but not until 8a.m.... there are a lot of us in line for this!

Okay, I am no longer afraid of the OCEAN cruise part of the next several days... now I am scared of the inlets! Turns out the tides are the big factor here. Wednesday night we will be going into an inlet where there is a beach road and bridge that has to open. Active Captive, an on-line help, said don't even start moving to go through the bridge until the bridge is COMPLETELY opened! Apparently the in-coming tide will sweep you in quicker than the bridge can open!! I wish we could just go all the way to NY in one ocean cruise but it is just too far.

I know it is suppose to be good for old people to learn new things to keep their brains going...but I wonder how much of the heart pumping stuff we can take?!
