A Pretty Day with a Little Shear Terror!

Grand children were watching on the live cam from home as we slipped the lines at 8a. this morning.  Brrrr! it was only 50 degrees. We had lots of help from our dockmates who we are already missing... a fun group of folks that are taking the Erie Canal route when it opens.  Perhaps we will see them again in Canada.

We easily got under that 126th street bridge in Waterford and you would never know we had a current of 1.5 knots against us since the water was so quiet and beautiful.

Peaceful Waters on the Hudson Today
It took us less time than expected to go up the flight of locks today. This was probably because we were the first boat to arrive going north at all the locks. The first 5 locks were open and ready with a green light for us.

Some times it was a little turbulent due to the water flowing over the dams nearby.

I was happily surprised that the “slime” on the lines attached to the lock walls (the lines you hold) was not as bad in the Champlain Canal as in the Erie. :-) After we were secured to the lock wall they flooded the lock.

Lock Open.. Moving Out...on a Beautiful Day!

Shear terror came for me after Lock #3!  It was the dreaded fixed Railroad bridge, C5.  It is normally maintained with a clearance of 15.5 feet. There is a phone number for Lock #3 that you call ahead and ask them to lower the pool so you can get under the bridge.

Miss gg is 17' 1"! We were told that this year instead of constantly lowering the water they were going to keep it at 17'3" ft.  EGAD!  I can tell you that my stomach is STILL upset!

The Captain had me get onto the sun deck roof to eye ball the bridge.

We missed by ONE INCH! And I'm still not interested in eating dinner even at 7p!

Docked for the Night at Ft. Edward
We are tucked in at Ft. Edward. A beautiful free park side city dock and plenty to see within walking distance. We were alone when we arrived and no one to catch our lines.  I quickly loaded the Landing Loop and caught the dock cleat with the first try!

Not sure what tomorrow will bring...we are wanting to push on since our delay in Waterford.  Perhaps making that decision would best be done after a good night's sleep.  God is good!
