A Day in Killarney

We decided to stay another day and wait for a few of our fellow Loopers.   Walter had to replace the vacuum plump in the aft head (bathroom) so I went for a walk to the lighthouse.

The only way to Killarney was by boat until a road was built in 1962.  It was originally established as a fur trade outpost in 1820 but later became a thriving fishing village.  They needed a lighthouse for ships to find their way into this remote harbor.

The Killarney East & West Lighthouses were built in 1867 and were among the first to be lit in the new Dominion of Canada.  The lighthouse keeper lived in Killarney and maintained both lighthouses traveling by boat.

The walk is about 1.5 miles or 30 minutes each way.  My first view of it as I climbed the rocks.

This is a view of the harbor into the channel that leads to our marina.

Up close view of the lighthouse.

I took this photo as I was returning on the dirt road back to town.

Many Loopers did arrive early this afternoon.  So we had our gathering at 5p but at 530p a rain storm came … I had not worn a coat or sweater and I was freezing!  Since it was too wet to make a run for our boats we huddled together under an umbrella.... Brrrr!  But the sun finally came out and we made dinner plans.

Everywhere we go the Waterway Guide & other books talk about “must see” or "must eat at” places.  We decided to go to Herbert Fisheries which is raved about by some.

The place is a bus!  They clean and cook the fish in this BUS!  The Captain and I split the meal... how was it?  It was FRIED fish!

Tomorrow we go looking for ROCKS and hope to find them BEFORE they find us!  We are going to Baie Fine (Bay Fin).  We may even do some hiking to a mountain lake!
Wahoo!
