Okay,
so the wind was blowing when we left this morning about 915a... but
it was suppose to be a lot less by noon and also change
directions to be in our favor! Never happened. So our first
experience with the Great Lakes (Lake Huron) was not a good one....
for the first time since we began this Adventure... in the midst of
my breakfast nearly coming back up... I wanted to go home! Hanging
on for two hours+ is no fun! The Captain is exhausted as he had to
stand for the last hour to hold the wheel... auto-pilot was not able
to hold our course in the rough water.
We
arrived about 330p at this beautiful and what looks like an unique
place, Mackinac Island. We will stay two nights here at the very
reasonable city docks. It is overcast and windy and cold here but of
course a few yankees are running around in shorts. Once the green
shade of my face lightened up I took a few pictures of what can be
seen from our docks.
Looks
like a wonderful place to walk and ride bikes.. no cars allowed.. we
are considering taking the horse & buggy ride tomorrow to get an
overview for exploring on our own later. But right now my hands, feet and
nose are still too cold to think about an outing.
First
seen this morning... a ore ship passing on its way along with others
to the St. Mary River to Sault Ste. Marie.
Pretty
water, not too windy to start the day.
Lighthouse
in Lake Huron at the entrance to De Tour passage.
Then
past this the wind kicked up and came at us hard. It is impossible to show you how much we were rolling. I took these few photos from inside the salon.
What
a blessing to finally get behind this Island... lighthouse in
Mackinac Harbor.
Views from our dock.
August
13 and I just finished a cup of hot chocolate! I have now warmed up enough to go exploring a
bit tonight to get a preview of tomorrow's Adventure.... until then,
Blessings to you all!
