Playing in the Sand

I have a great friend, my hiking partner, Nancy Kenny.   Her son is married to our oldest daughter.   We share two Grand Wonders, Miranda & Andrea.   Like many of you, she has been so good to write us often to keep us up on things at home.  She told us about the dunes.  So Nancy, this one's for YOU!

We rented a car today and drove to the National Lakeshore where Sleeping Bear Dunes is located.  To climb up hill in sand is to go up one step and slide back half a step.   So it took a while to climb the 450 feet.   In this picture that is the high dune...not a sandy beach.

We were not quite at the top when this photo was taken with Glen Lake in the background beyond the parking lot.   It looks flat here but it is not.  :-0

Wind kicking up the Lake will keep us here another two days after tomorrow... may not leave until Friday.  Walter will be working to realign the radar antenna on the mast.  There is ALWAYS work on a boat to be done.   I will be looking around for another Adventure... maybe stick my toe in the COLD Lake?  I know for sure it will be a wonderful night to sleep aboard Miss gg... she is already gently rocking with the wind.

  1. Looks like you had a great day. That place looks awesome. I hope we make it there one day. We're working our way back down to NYC.
